Experiencing God
with Children
Welcome to Mother Mary’s Way, a joyful and sacred approach to spiritual education for children and youth of all ages based on the writings of Dr. Maria Montessori and her colleagues, expanding now to include the universal truths of the world’s great religions.
There is always a response of joy when children listen to the Good Shepherd parable. The ease and spontaneity of young children’s religious expressions and feelings spring from the depth of their hearts, as if it were completely natural to them. – Gianna Gobbi, The Good Shepherd & the Child
This is a path that honors and nurtures the spiritual nature of each child. It leads children through beautiful Montessori-based activities to deep inner communion with God.
The peaceful work with the hands-on materials leads children beyond the level of the intellect into intimate communion with their Inner Teacher or Higher Self – often resulting in spontaneous expressions of praise and adoration!
The lessons can be shared at home with parents or in a Children’s Chapel, a special peaceful place which provides the setting for each child’s innate devotional nature to flourish, a place where children, parents and teachers experience the presence of God.
The curriculum builds upon Dr. Maria Montessori’s teachings from The Child in the Church and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the Montessori religious education program developed by Dr. Montessori’s colleague, Giana Gobbi and Biblical scholar, Dr. Sofia Cavaletti*.
The team at Mary’s Way is dedicated to the ongoing development of spiritual lessons and materials for children and youth of all ages. The current curriculum begins with ages 3 – 6 with the Parable of the Good Shepherd, the birth and early life of Jesus, the parables and key events in Jesus’ mission, as well as the personal path of Christhood.
Future lessons will highlight teachings from the Old Testament and the universal truths of the world’s great religions including Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Confucianism and Taoism.
We invite you to contact us for more information or to join our email list and receive updates and news from programs around the world.
The interactive materials are “indications of the hidden reality of God. They are concrete helps to know the language, time and places of the mystery of God.”– Gianna Gobbi, Torreon, Mexico, 1998
